RESTAURANT ROW REDUX

We love our Old Beach restaurants, who continue to delight us with their signature preparations and perhaps a few innovative surprises. The freshness and authenticity of ingredients, purchased eye-to-eye from the folks who make it, keep us coming back for more.

Croc’s, Pelon’s Baja Grill, Rockafeller’s and Terrapin are our stalwart heroes, coming on Saturday to tempt you. Authentic hummus? Guacamole and house-made chips? Specialty pies? Fresh fruit sorbets and granola?

This week The Stockpot returns just before opening their own restaurant at the end of September.  Patrick Edwards and Anne Galante have won many fans at our market. The café at 700 19th St., just a block away, will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Soups this Saturday are Sweet Potato Coconut Curry and Smoky Black Crowder Pea with Sausage and Greens, both with a Rosemary Biscuit.

The Orchid Station returns! Select from their beautiful plants before the weather is too cold for them to come.

We have 27 vendors here this week, including produce from five growers: Build Your Food, Grace and Gratitude, Mattawoman Creek Farms, The Neighborhood Harvest, and New Earth Farm. Come on out!

PLEASE NOTE: OPENING TIME NOW AT 9:00

RECIPE

MMM-EDITERRANEAN HUMMUS TACOS

In Lettuce Shells

Grab some prepared hummus this week at Old Beach and your dinner is mostly done. I love to eat hummus spread on pita bread and in many other ways, but for a quick and delicious meal, try my Mmm-editerranean Hummus Tacos.

Separate leaves from a crisp head of iceberg lettuce. Place a generous dollop of hummus in the center of each and top with shredded rotisserie chicken, crumbled feta, diced tomato, chopped parsley and sliced black olives. Drizzle on some Greek yogurt, sprinkle on a little freshly-squeezed lemon juice and grind some freshly ground black pepper. Fold over and enjoy taco-style.
